I just made this pain rub for my husband as we are both still recovering from our motorcycle wreck and he has a lot of pain through his neck, back and shoulders from physical therapy. He loves it so I am pleased with the results. This recipe was taken from Jade Shutes at The School for Aromatic Studies. This recipe makes between 6 and 8 ounces of rub. Thanks Jade!
What you will need:
(2) 4 ounce glass jars to store your rub
4 ounces organic aloe vera gel
2 Tbsp lavender hydrosol
1 Tbsp chamomile hydrosol
2 Tbsp peppermint hydrosol
1 Tbsp St. John's wort oil
Peppermint essential oil
Bay laurel essential oil
Wintergreen essential oil
Put the following synergy of essential oils in your jars first that you are going to store your rub. If you are making (2) 4 ounce jars then you will put this in the bottom of each jar. These ratios are strong, but remember this is suppose to relieve pain. 12 drops peppermint essential oil, 25 drops bay laurel essential oil and 15 drops of wintergreen essential oil.
Please note, if you are taking blood thinners or are preparing for surgery or have recently had surgery, please consult your doctor before using wintergreen essential oil as there are contraindications with certain medicines and the oil.
What you will do:
Put aloe vera gel in a small mixing bowl. I used my small Pyrex. Mix in the St. John's oil as well as all the hydrosols. Stir well with a spoon until you get a creamy, almost lotion like consistency.
Pour mixture into your storage jars that already have the essential oil synergy at the bottom. Use the other end of your spoon to stir and mix the essential oils into your aloe mixture. Store away from direct sunlight. Apply to back, neck, muscles, arms or legs for pain.
